Build Buffalo Roots

To be eligible to purchase a home through Build Buffalo Roots, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Applicants’ annual household income must not exceed $81,960.
• Applicants must be pre-approved for a mortgage and have funds available for closing costs.
• Applicants must have less than $100,000 in household assets.

The Build Buffalo Roots initiative is a homeownership and neighborhood reinvestment effort that is transforming vacant and abandoned land into brand-new homes. The initiative will deliver 52 new homes in total—47 in the City of Buffalo and 5 in Cheektowaga—with several completed homes now for sale and additional construction ongoing. As homes are sold, proceeds support future development, helping more families put down and build Buffalo roots.

These infill homes are designed to:

• increase affordable homeownership opportunities,
• revitalize neighborhoods affected by disinvestment and demolition, and
• stabilize the housing stock with high-quality, code-compliant construction.

This work is driven by a partnership between the City of Buffalo, Erie County, and BENLIC, and brought to life by HHL Architects, BCC, Belmont Housing Resources of WNY, and the builders working day‑to‑day on these homes. Together, we’re creating places designed for people to live, grow, and put down roots.
